Ceramics and paintings by Miquel Barceló

Ceramics and paintings by Miquel Barceló

The Museu de Menorca, situated in the old Franciscan convent of Jesús in Maó, will hold from April 29 to June 29 an exhibition that groups some thirty ceramics and twelve paintings by the Mallorcan artist Miquel Barceló (Felanitx, 1957). The paintings are small with African themes, still life and seaskapes, and the ceramics have been created by the artist in Artà, France and Italy during the last six years. The same exhibition can be seen from July 7 to August 31 in the Roser de Ciutadella, which is an old chapel of the XVII century that has been renovated recently.

The show is part of the cycle "Miquel Barceló a les Illes Balears" organised by the Fundació Balears 21 and commissioned by the Mallorcan artist Enrique Juncosa (director of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin) which will also reach the Museu d'Art Contemporani in Eivissa, the square outside the Town Hall of Sant Francesc Xavier in Formentera and Sa Llotja in Palma.

Miquel Barceló is now working on the ceramic cover and the decoration of the chapel of Sant Pere in the Palma Cathedral. There is more information about the artist and his work in the web of the Fons Documental Miquel Barceló de Artà.
